Our first instillation of "critique Auntie T's outfit"!!!

Hi! I'm Auntie T. As sister of this fashionable blogger, you'd think that I'd have picked up some fashion sense along the way - not necessarily the case. I've been dependent upon my big sis for her fashionable words of wisdom for most of my life. Here you can follow our dialogue of my attempts to dress well and the critiques that my sister gives me as I attempt to become more attuned to good taste in clothes.

As you can tell, I like to dress for cheap. Sometimes this works out well for me, other times... well, you'll see.

What I was thinking?

For this outing to a rocky beach on the California coast, I wanted to wear something that was lightweight and comfortable. I chose a green top because I thought it would look pleasant with the hues of the ocean, and the natural cotton skirt because it didn't draw more attention than the blouse. I wanted to skip along the rocks and wade in the shallow tide pools, so I chose a skirt that fell above my ankles and offered a wide range of movement. I decided to wear layers because I wasn't quite sure how chilly the ocean breezes could be in December.
Overall, I enjoyed my clothes that day. I felt entirely prepared for the chilly weather. There was one disadvantage to this outfit, though. I mentioned the strapless bra in the lineup because I feel it was a bad choice. I didn't expect to need the sweater, but I ended up wearing it the whole time. With the sweater, it wouldn't have been an issue to wear a bra with straps. Instead, I was pulling this strapless back into place every five minutes.

I dont know what you were thinking wearing a SKIRT to the TIDEPOOLS in DECEMBER! Especially considering you told the boys to wear crocs and jeans that could be rolled up and specified that they would need windbreakers. One could assume that the adult in charge of the outing would be similarly dressed.

Over all- its a cute outfit, but not appropriate for that specific outing. There you have it... my 2c.

I just had a birthday, and my aunt and my mom gave me $$ and told me to spend it on new clothes...

well I just had a baby and since I didnt gain much weight, all my "fat" clothes (post Scooty, pre 10lb ish weight loss for my sister's wedding) mostly fit, but its always nice to have a few new things to get you through the summer...right?

...so I've decided that curly brown hair is over rated.
Actually I decided this when I was like 15 but I wasnt allowed to dye my hair when I lived at home, so I just put it on the back burner. I've been pregnant or growing my hair out for stuff since then (like my sister's wedding or locks of love) so brown hair was it. I was actually forbidden to do ANYTHING to my hair but wear it down for her wedding. And my boys had to cut their mohawks off.

Last summer my friend offered to "pink up" my hair. I was ALL FOR IT until I found out I was pregnant. I decided that I'd just have to wait.

Well I'm not pregnant anymore...lets pink up some hair!! Nobody takes me seriously anyway...so why not have a little fun??!!

Sunday night I went to my friends house for a "girls night" and this is what I came home looking like-

I am totally loving it!!!!

This morning when I was dropping Clowny Pants off at school, I leaned over to give him a kiss and the little girl standing next to him said "Your mommy has RED hair!" Clowny Pants corrected her and said "no, actually its PINK." well said Mr. Mohawk!

Come on...its not everyday you see a pink haired mommy dropping off a kid with a mohawk at school...

unless you go to our school! lol

My mom and I hit Khols yesterday and for just under $20, I ended up with 5 tops and a dress!!

Their clearence is awesome right now, 25% off the yellow ticket mark down price! (I got a top for $1.35!)

its paired with a pair of old navy maternity pants and ballet flats :)

I have a lot of wear left in this top! Thank goodness because I have just over 19w to go!

I dont know about anyone else, but at this house we have ISSUES finding jeans that fit right.

Sassy pants and I are both carrying a little big of junk in our trunks, but are slim pretty much everywhere else. Thats where buying jeans is literally a pain in the behind.

Usually the problem is "gap-osis", where there's a 2+ inch gap between the back of the pants/jeans and your back. And then your underpants show. PROBLEM. Not only is it completely unflattering (and who wants to see what underpants you're wearing, right?) but its also really uncomfortable! Until now.

Last night at kohls, grandma sent Sassy into the fitting room with 14 pairs of jeans. (I kid you not). The 4th pair of jeans Sassy tried on was a pair of Lee girls streach jeans with a "NO GAP WAISTBAND" and you know what? THEY FIT PERFECT! No "gap-osis", no "hitch up your pants-dance" to keep them up...we were in LOVE.Come to find out after googling....Lee makes an ENTIRE LINE of these not only for little girls (in slim sizes too!), but for ladies too! Guess what my first pair of post baby jeans I'm purchasing are going to be? Yep...you guessed it! And whats better than finding a fantastic fitting pair of jeans? Knowing that they're reasonably priced!! I think Sassy Pants new jeans were around $11! (on sale, with a 20% off coupon)

Thursday-made my own bella band

hey look, Ive started dressing myself again lol
Truth be told morning sickness is still getting the best of me most days, so I havent been feeling well enough to post, but *most* days I get dressed, and sometimes I even wear cute stuff! I promise!

Here's today's outfit. I made this "bella band" myself, mostly because I have a long torso and have "pants issues"- no matter how long my shirt is, the ugly elastic maternity pants shows. And sometimes my crack shows. So as an apology to anyone who has to stand or walk behind me, I'm going to try to wear these as often as possible.

I am modeling my "bella band". What the heck is that?! Its a camisol that I cut the straps off of and shoved down around my belly and over my "crack". Hey- it works! And its pretty comfy too! I left the built in bra in- the elastic helps it no slip down all weird...

Dear Readers who have long forgotten about me....

I have to apologize for letting life take over and not allowing me to blog.

I have lots of excuses, I just wont be sharing them. Ok maybe one, because it'll change the tone of my blog.

So my dear readers, my excuse is I haven't been feeling well enough to blog. Exhaustion, and nausea have kept me from making myself presentable, let alone feeling well enough to take a picture and show of the atrocious outfit I've concocted...(I am sad to admit that most days I look like I rolled out of bed...and yeah I think my children are embarrassed to be seen with me when I pick them up at school)

And now I have a new challenge...not to dress the body of a mom of 4...but for the next 6mo, to dress the body of a 20 something mom expecting her 5th child! YIKES!

I've been at a crossroads with my hair for months now.

Too long to really do anything with in this heat, but not ready to chop it off and donate it to locks of love. Remember this post back in June?

The last few days its been driving me crazy. I had it in a ponytail the other night when I was trying to sleep and I woke up with my hair trying to suffocate me- wrapped over my face and neck....and I happened to be dreaming about being attacked by an octopus! lol

Yesterday I had my sister come over and "trim" it- when it was all said and done- 5 inches later, it doesnt LOOK any different, but boy it sure feels good to have some of that length gone! You know what's sad? My husband couldnt even tell that I'd cut it. He took 1 look at it and said "are you SURE you cut 5 inches off?" Ummm....YEAH. Same with 3 of my neighbors!

Wanna know how we trimmed it? She had me wet it down, bend over, put a rubber band at the spot I wanted to chop it off and cut at the rubber band. Then she trimmed it straight accross to even things out while I was still leaning over. Then she had me stand up and flip it onto my back and voila- all these beautiful layers!

Sassy Pants did Locks of Love yesterday!

Yesterday I took my 7yo daughter to Great Clips to have her hair cut for Locks of Love.
She's been talking about it for a while, spent the last week begging me to cut it, then thursday her friend told her SHE'd done it too...so yesterday we took the plunge.

Overall it was a great experience! Maybe someday I'll do it again (I've done it twice)...

About a year ago my sister talked me into growing my hair out for her wedding. She talked Sassy Pants into it too. Now that the wedding is over, Sassy and I are talking about donating our waist long tresses to Locks of Love.

At first I was really gung ho- ready to hit the salon and chop it all off. Go for something short and summery and be free of my daily ponytails and messy buns. Sassy Pants wasnt so sure about participating this time around (I've done it 2 other times). Then suddenly I saw pictures of my hair at the wedding and I want to keep my long pretty hair!

I'd love to hear opinions!!

ok technically these shorts are new...

I bought them last spring and then discovered that I bought the wrong pair- I tried on 2 sizes in the store, and accidentally put back the ones that were just right and bought the pair that was too small. I thought I'd wasted $8 but prayed that I'd lose some weight and be able to wear them eventually...

So they've been sitting in my closet for a year. AND NOW THEY FIT!!

Lost 10lbs and gained a summer wardrobe!!

Its official, I lost 10lbs!

My goal was to lose it by my sister's wedding last weekend, and I lost 9lbs by the wedding. Not too bad...I was trying to nurse a toddler AND lose 1 pound a week...

The best part...

Because I lost those 10lbs I decided I should dig around in my just bearly too small clothes box and see if I had any shorts that fit, because otherwise I would have to go shorts shopping (ugh!). Normally I would have just felt bad about myself because I couldn't even get the shorts up over my thighs, cried a little and then had a bowl of ice cream. Today was a different story. Not only did I get the shorts on, but I zipped them all shut too. AND I could sit down comfortably in them! I ended up with 4 pairs of shorts and a skirt! (this is all pre-baby #4 stuff!)

I'm sorry that my writings have been so...stupid lately.

Nothing horribly exciting. I havent shown my clothes for a while. I'm in a funk.
And I quit my job. Some days I dont even get dressed because I'm not going anywhere but the school and I dont even get out of the car unless I *have* to...
When I was working, I *had* to get dressed everyday and I *had* to look presentable.

I assure you that I shower everyday, and then I just throw on "whatever" and go on my merry way. And NO- "whatever" does not include pjs! Lately its been sweats, shorts or jeans...and usually not shoes.

and I'm ashamed to say it, but I'm sitting here in warm up pants typing this.

I feel like such a let down. A loser.

Maybe I'll get out of this aweful funk and start caring about clothes again. Until then, you'll have to put up with...well whatever I've been posting lately.

And FTR, I didnt quit my job because I wanted to, I did out of nessecity. Private family drama which hopefully will be sorted out in the next few months. I still babysit in my home, but I dont have to look nice for that ;)

Guess where these shorts came from?

I'll give you a hint. They're not new.

When they were new they were not purchased in the girls department.

Sassy has really really long legs and a very skinny waist/hips and its REALLY hard to find shorts that fit around that arent super short. Finding shorts that are appropriate for school is an ordeal and we havent found a SINGLE pair that will work. She's tried on so many shorts it makes my head spin.

Until last night. I was sorting through clothes that Clowny Pants had outgrown and a lighbulb went off in my head...I took these 3 pairs of shorts and asked Sassy to try them on. They could all totally pass as girls shorts!

So now I'm wondering...whats the difference between 3t boys shorts and 6xslim girls shorts?! The label aparently...

just dont tell Sassy or she wouldnt be caught dead in them! She thinks they're super cute and she also thinks I have a secret stash of clothes for her in my closet!

I still hate diaper bags, but after much thought I've changed the diaper bag situation.

I dumped the mega bag out on the living room floor and re-sorted everything into my yakpak messanger bag. I actually sort of like the messanger bag because I can hang it on the back of my stroller and as long as its fairly empty or the baby is in the stroller, it doesnt tip the stroller over.

The mega bag has been re-assigned to the house and is now filled with toys and sits in my living room. Scooty Pants likes to dump it out and re-fill it. And the other kids like to hide toys in the pockets for him to find.

Dont be shocked if we re-visit diaper bags in a few months...I go through cycles with them! lol

Thats what I wore today. (ok I wore shoes...those brown ones) I feel so grown up in that outfit. I went out with my sister (no kids!) tonight to a bridal store to try on a bridesmaid dress (I'm back in...so do I take back that *HOT* dress I bought to wear to the event after I'd quit being the Matron of Honor? My sister said I should keep it and wear it to church...hmm...) and figured I should look nice...
too bad every employee in the store looked like a bunch of hippies with barefeet, no bras and strappy sundresses! lol I felt so out of place!

to Diaper Bag or to NOT Diaper Bag? THAT is the question....

I have 4 kids ranging from age 7, to age 1.
I DO NOT CARRY A DIAPER BAG. Not anymore anyway. Once my baby got past the "blowout" and "barfallovermyself" stage I quit lugging it around. I've had 3 since Scooty Pants was born. The first one bit the dust within the first 3 months of owning it. The 2nd one has the same problem. I had to dig out a 3rd diaper bag by the time my baby was 6 months old. Thats just sad.
I dont like them.
I keep one in the car however. A few, actually.

a little daypacker backpack filled with stuff to keep the baby busy if we got somewhere, like church or the doctor's office. It has snacks and diapers in it too.
"the mega bag" (and I'm not real sure why...I dont take it anywhere) but it has stuff like benedryl, my huge fold out changing mat, spare clothes for the baby and other stuff. The big one gets toted along with my youngest two to the babysitter's one afternoon a week for an hour. It seriously is HUGE. Its cube shaped and not really good for anything but sitting in the car. Stupid me, I gifted an identical one to my bestfriend when her 5th baby was born. What was I thinking?! It has 8+ pockets. Thats what I was thinking...I love pockets..
the "big black bag" which has 4 sweatshirts and a change of clothes for my 5yo. This one rarely sees the light of day and my husband likes to complain about it being in the back of my expedition but you know what, I use it!

I carry a purse most everywhere, I go and I dont want to lug along a big o bulky diaper bag too. When I was a stay at home mom I had a diaper bag that I carried everywhere. No purse. My wallet and all my "stuff" was in the diaper bag.

Do I *really need* to carry a diaper bag too?

And why the heck am I asking anyway?? I'm thinking about downsizing my mega bag to a messanger bag. I'm not sure either would work with my everyday stroller (a maclaren volo- courtasy of the target baby clearence a few months back), but I'm thinking smaller is better.

Hmm...maybe the lack of a big ugly diaper bag is why people still ask me if I'm the NANNY and are shocked when I say I'm the mommy....

Well neener neener neener to whoever decided that. I have 5 and I wear them all the time- so there. I'm not taking them out of my wardrobe. Heck I might even go out and buy more because I love them so very much. They hide my muffin top. They only make me look pregnant if I'm wearing "the wrong jeans" with them (low riders). They look HOT on me!

I was on a mission today- buy a dress to wear to my sister's wedding. Shoes too if I needed them.

I started at Ross. I hate that store. Its so disorganized, and very hit or miss. Either I find nothing I like, or tons that I like. Today was a HIT day!

Not only did I find a dress to wear to the wedding, but I found a dress to wear to church too, and shoes that go with both, some killer pedal pusher pants and a really cute top! Scooty Pants was so well behaved and Clowny Pants kept telling me how every dress I tried on looked so very nice. Except the one with the big polka dots...he said I looked like Minnie Mouse in that dress! lol

I tried on those two pictured dresses at JcPenny's the other night...

in one word:

EW.
The yellow jacket with the plaid skirt-
the jacket was too short. My torso is way too long for that peticular jacket.
The skirt was fine, it was just really "cheep" looking.

the other yellow atrocity...well.. we'll just say it was terrible.

Along with the other 7 dresses I tried on in the store. Back to the drawing board with this one.
Tomorrow I plan on hitting Ross and Marshalls. Possibly Target, Kohls and TJMaxx...maybe...
Ugh. Wish me luck.

My friend Lisa encoraged me to go through the Hanna Anderson catelogs today looking for bargains. HA is really not my style. I dont think I would dress my daughter in their stuff. If I want overpriced frufru I'll head over to Gymboree. They have ok stuff for boys but nothing I want to rush out and grab up. So imagine my shock this morning as I was thumbing through their website looking for deals when I saw these two cute *mom* outfits. (they have a whole section dedicated to women including matchy-matchy stuff for mom and daughter, but only these 2 struck me as cute)

infact I love it so much I may go out to the fabric store and see if I can get some brown corduroy and make my own skirt. Perhaps I'll get enough so that Sassy Pants and I can *match*!! (I figured out why I like it so much, Sassy Pants has something very similar to that from The Childrens Place in red)

The shirt does nothing for me (especially paired with that skirt) and the boots...eeeh....I dont like them with that skirt or shirt lol Now the little girls shirt is darling!
